Message Rule of thumb if you don't have a belt tension gauge: on the longest stretch of the belt try to twist the belt with your thumb and index finger, if it can be twisted more than 90 degrees it's too loose. If it can't be twisted more than I would say about ~60 degrees it's too tight. If you're worried about over-tightening it then start from 90 and tighten the bolt half a turn everyday till the squealing stops.
